2011 Ford Explorer Aims to be Best in Class Again!

The 2011 Ford Explorer is an exciting new release by Ford which will feature some of Ford's latest fuel efficiency technology. Ford is competing with Chevy's share of the SUV market in which Chevy models such as the Suburban which can be found at a local FL Chevrolet Dealer have done very well in. Ford is making a dramatic shift with the new Explorer from past year models that were considered to be somewhat fuel inefficient and may have a negative or neutral image among consumers. Some of the most desired models in the world can be found at Alexandria Mercedes-Benz Dealers, but Ford is looking to improve its image with the latest Explorer and it is certainly a major leap in technology and other features.

Volkswagen is also continuing to do well in the SUV crossover vehicle class with some of its vehicle models. However, Ford has not done well over the past several years with its Explorer model due to increased interest in other models and the perception of the vehicle being an underperformer.

The new model has an optional 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine which offers a 30 percent increase in fuel efficiency as opposed to the current V-6 Explorer. Mark Fields, Ford President of the Americas said, “The all-new Explorer will give a huge universe of existing and prospective customers the capability they expect and the luxury and convenience they want, all combined with the fuel economy they need.”

There are new comfort and convenience features added to the model, but the largest changes have been to the body and the powertrain among other additions that are designed to improve fuel efficiency. Some of the technologies added include power assisted steering, better strength steels that are lighter in weight, faster engine warm up, and aggressive deceleration fuel shutoff time. Six-speed automatic transmissions help to improve the fuel economy of the model and there is also twin independent camshaft timing for even more fuel efficiency.
