Americans do try to be green; they use recyclable bags at the grocery store, they buy green or recycled clothing and furniture, and they buy hybrid cars. In fact, hybrid cars and alternative sources of fuel vehicles is one of the top growing vehicle classes in the industry. It makes you wonder then why July 2010 sales are down 33% compared to last year's sales for the hybrid market? The VW Specials have been going on all summer, and Volkswagen sales are actually up 27.5%; looks like their advertising and current incentive programs are doing their intended purpose. And the sales of the new Honda Insight available at Washington DC Honda is doing pretty good, selling an impressive 1,858 models while the Honda Civic Hybrid sold 617 models. The availability of hybrids at Port Charlotte Used Cars varies; sometimes there are a lot and sometimes there are not! People don't generally trade in their hybrid vehicles unless they need a bigger size. Compared to fellow American auto maker General Motors, Ford Motor Company and Mercury hybrid sales are doing fantastic for the hot summer month July.
The Mercury Milan Hybrid sold 90 units and the Mariner Hybrid sold 100 units! That is not bad when you consider how many vehicles Mercury sells each month; this must be a significant portion. Ford was able to sell 1,586 of the Ford Fusion Hybrid and 1,260 units of the Ford Escape Hybrids. We imagine those numbers will continue to rise as the 2011 inventory rolls in and dealerships need to move out the 2010 line up.
Of course the big seller was the Toyota Prius, selling 14,102 of the fuel efficient hybrid founder car! The Camry was able to move 1,276 models off the lots and the Highlander did its part selling 575 units. All together, Toyota and Lexus sold 17,504 units, making up 73.9% of the hybrid sales for July 2010 in the United States.
