Keep a Close Eye on Your F-250!

According to the Highway Loss Data Institute, a branch of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, recently released their list of the top stolen vehicles according to theft claims reported to insurance companies.  At the very top of the list was the Cadillac Escalade.  Reportedly, 10.8 out of 1,000 Escalades that are insured are reported stolen.  On average, the insurance company only paid out $11,934 for each claim.  A cute little car from Volkswagen Peoria sounds pretty good right now!  What is surprising to many owners who bought vehicles from Cincinnati Ford is that the Ford F-250 crew cab with four wheel drive is the second most stolen vehicle!  This data is based on models from 2008 or 2009.  But just because you just bought a 2010 model from a Ford Dealer Concord does not mean your truck is totally safe; it just means all the data for the 2010 models has yet to be calculated and reported!

In fact, in 1998 the amount of trucks being stolen was on a steady decline that continued until 2001.  Since then, there has been a steady incline on the amount of trucks being stolen each year, and in 2005 trucks were stolen more than the trendy SUVs.  Truck owners need to realize that thieves aren't only after your truck; they want what is inside your truck!  If you use your Ford F-250 for work, which many owners do, chances are it is full of expensive tools and equipment that thieves can easily sell.  The smaller F-150 isn't targeted as much because Americans regard that almost as a daily driver.  Typically, only people who really need the hauling capability will buy the larger F-250 and F-350 models.

Some of the other models that are stolen the most include the Infiniti G37, Dodge Charger Hemi, and Corvette Z06.  Thieves want the fancy parts they can sell off; even if your vehicle has anti-theft security installed does not mean they can't tow your car away!
