The new Focus is going to be safer than ever. Ford is going to install their brand new airbag technology in the 2012 Focus and then consumers can expect to see other models follow suit in 2013 when the NHTSA crash standards become more rigorous. Ford Motor Company is installing an inner tether system so that the lower abdomen sustains less injury and the passenger front seat will have a scale so the airbag will release some air and pressure if it detects a smaller person riding up front.
The 2012 Focus will come in four trim levels; S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The standard engine for all trims will be a 2.0-liter four cylinder with direct injection that produces 155 horsepower and 140 pound feet of torque. For drivers who opt for an automatic transmission, they will get Ford’s new dual-clutch auto manual from PowerShift and it is complete with paddle shifters. Exciting news for those with a need for speed, there will be a turbocharged Ford Focus ST available. The four cylinder EcoBoost comes with a six speed manual transmission and impresses international drivers with 247 horsepower and 266 pound feet of torque.
