Ford CEO Meets President Obama For Lunch!

The CEO of Ford Motor Company, whose models can be browsed at a Monterey Ford dealer or a Bradenton Used cars dealer, met with President Obama today at the White House along with other CEOs. Volkswagen, whose models can be test driven at a Volkswagen Peoria dealer, and other European manufacturers have had better luck than Ford since 2000 in the American market, however, Ford has done very well for the first half of 2010 even in a slow economy.

The meeting takes place after Ford posted some of its strongest results in years for the first half of 2010. The purpose of the meeting was to build relationships between the government and the private business sector and discuss how to create more jobs and invest. Ford's total sales are up 27 percent for the year compared to 2009. This is the largest gain out of all the Big Three in Detroit.

Ford's June sales also rose 13 percent for the month of June which helped the automaker close out a strong 2010 start. The automaker has also made plans to reduce its debt loads. Ford recently made a very large payment toward a union benefit that was agreed upon in 2009. Ford made headlines when it decided to not declare bankruptcy in 2009 after a very rough year for several automakers.

Ford spokesman Mike Moran was reported as saying, "Obviously, it was an opportunity to update President Obama on Ford's progress on our plan and to emphasize the importance of manufacturing to U.S. competitiveness.”

Some of the other executives at the meeting included: Bob Iger, CEO of Walt Disney, Brian Roberts, CEO of Comcast, Patricia Woertz, CEO of Archer Daniels Midland Co., and others.

There have been seven such meetings with business owners since the President took office. Ford did not disclose details about what was discussed during the lunch meeting with the President.
